About Us

typing the phrase "turn the page"

Welcome to CodexObscurus.com, a blog for writers who are trying to figure it all out, one chapter at a time.

If you’ve ever sat in front of a blank page wondering where to start—or worse, wondering why you ever started—then you’re in the right place.

CodexObscurus.com was created for writers like you. Writers who are passionate, frustrated, hopeful, overwhelmed, excited, and sometimes completely lost. It doesn’t matter if you’re outlining your very first novel, halfway through your fifth manuscript, or finally ready to hit “publish” after months (or years) of edits. This space is here to walk alongside you through every twist and turn of your writing journey.

I started this blog because I needed it. I needed a space that didn’t sugarcoat the process. A space that didn’t promise overnight success, viral book sales, or six-figure deals by next Thursday. What I wanted—and what I’m hoping to create here—is a place where we can talk about the real stuff: the creative blocks, the imposter syndrome, the technical headaches of formatting, and the awkward (yet necessary) art of self-promotion.

What You’ll Find Here

At CodexObscurus, I write about everything that touches the life of a modern-day writer:

  • Writing the actual book: Plotting, pacing, building characters that don’t feel like cardboard, dealing with the dreaded middle, and yes, learning how to finish something you start.
  • Self-publishing: I talk about the platforms, the formatting tools, the distribution options, and the pros and cons of going indie. If I’ve used it, fought with it, or figured out a way to make it work—I’ll share it.
  • Marketing your book: Launch strategies, building an author platform, running ads without losing your mind (or your shirt), and figuring out how to sell without sounding like a walking sales pitch.
  • Mindset and motivation: Because writing is as much a mental game as it is a craft. We’ll cover burnout, writer’s block, self-doubt, rejection, and all the emotional messiness no one prepares you for when you first declare, “I’m writing a book.”

Most of the posts here are born from my own experience—what I’ve learned the hard way, what I’m currently testing, and what I wish someone had told me sooner.

Why the Name Codex Obscurus?

The name is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek nod to the mysterious and often confusing nature of the writing process. Codex is an old word for book. Obscurus suggests something shadowy, elusive, or hard to pin down. Sound familiar? Writing a book often feels like chasing a story through fog—you know it’s there, but you’re never quite sure where it’s leading until you arrive.

That’s the spirit of this blog. We’re all just trying to bring clarity to something that, by nature, resists being fully understood. Storytelling is both ancient and deeply personal, and no two writing journeys look the same. But even if the paths are different, the struggles are surprisingly universal.

Who Am I?

I’m not a bestselling author (yet). I haven’t landed a Netflix deal, and I don’t have a team of assistants managing my brand. I’m just a working writer who’s learned a lot from trial, error, and too many cups of coffee. I’ve written novels, published books, built blogs, studied the publishing world from the inside out, and made plenty of mistakes along the way.

And that’s why this blog exists. Because for every polished author bio and curated Instagram post out there, there’s a real writer behind the scenes asking, Am I doing this right?

If that’s ever been you, you’re my kind of person.

Who This Blog Is For

CodexObscurus is for:

  • The new writer who wants practical help without feeling judged.
  • The indie author trying to figure out how to turn creativity into a career.
  • The seasoned storyteller who still battles self-doubt and needs a reminder that they’re not alone.
  • The side-hustler squeezing in chapters between a day job, dinner, and laundry.
  • The dreamer who hasn’t started yet but knows, deep down, that the story is there.

If you write—or want to write—and you’re tired of pretending this path is easy, you’ll feel at home here.

My Promise to You

I won’t waste your time with vague tips, recycled content, or empty hype. If I write about something, it’s because I believe it matters. And if I recommend a tool, a strategy, or a platform, it’s because I’ve used it myself and found it genuinely useful.

This blog isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being honest. Honest about the ups, the downs, the breakthroughs, the failures, and everything in between.

I’ll share what works. I’ll share what doesn’t. And I’ll do my best to make sure you walk away from every post feeling a little more equipped, a little more confident, and a little less alone in the writing world.
